We are over half way thru November now. I can’t believe how quickly it’s flying by! This past weekend, I began decorating for Christmas indoors and I’m loving how it’s coming along. I’d like to show you how to decorate for Christmas using a Winter Wonderland Theme.
I’ve been scoping out the Christmas décor in stores the past week or so and right now is when the stores are fully stocked, so if you’re thinking about changing your décor up this year, now is the time to head out and grab those decorations.
Choose Your Theme.
This year, similar to last year, I am going with a Winter Wonderland theme with red plaid accents. Last year, I was inspired by @kristywicks with her plaid décor, so I veered off in that direction and it turned out beautifully. This year, I am continuing on with the red plaid accents only I’m adding more of it. It’s more of a traditional look, but that pop of red speaks Christmas volumes!
I have this warm and cozy plaid throw hanging out of this wicker basket. I purchased two last year from HomeSense, but I did find another similar one at Terra Gardens in Waterdown, ON. I am waiting for them to call me to pick it up. Once I have it, I’ll be sure to share it here.

Decorating the Mantel & Livingroom.
The fireplace mantel is always my favourite area to style. Our home is over 100 years old and has an original coal burning fireplace. Unfortunately, we haven’t used it in over 10 years due to the crack at the back of the insert, but it’s still a gorgeous feature in our home.
The garland is made up of two separate garlands: an evergreen garland and a eucalyptus garland that I purchased from Amazon Canada here. I also added some faux cranberry picks and another evergreen pick I had on hand. The finishing touches where the red and gold bows and the warm white string lights that I purchased from Walmart Canada. It’s perfect and I love how cozy and traditional it makes our living space feel.

I love Nutcrackers! I have a few scattered around the house. I love it when I find a new one that just speaks to me and I have to have it. The bottle brush tree is from Michaels Canada. You can find it here. The glitter cones/trees are from HomeSense Canada and were a lucky find.
60% off ALL Ornaments

I scored these two plaid accent cushions last year from HomeSense Canada. They were originally meant to be in my son’s room on the twin beds, but this year, I have them in my livingroom. I think they work better here in this space, don’t you?

To add to the Winter Wonderland theme, I also have faux wildlife scattered around the house. The doe and fawn are just a couple of the faux wildlife I have and I purchased them at the Hudson Bay Company years ago. I’ve also added plaid wired ribbon to a few of my Christmas décor items. It’s an easy way to change up your theme in an inexpensive way. I picked up this wired plaid ribbon at Michaels. It comes in 80 ft. lengths so it can be used many times over.

Decorating Console Tables.
Our front foyer console has been decorated so simply with more wildlife and a bowl of pinecones that I re-used from my Fall décor. Sometimes it doesn’t take much to decorate. I have three of these plaid table runners. They are such a subtle plaid and I really like that about them. I purchased them at the Hudson Bay Company last year and they are not available anymore, but I did find a similar one from Walmart Canada here.

I will share more indoor Christmas décor next week as I continue to decorate. I have not yet put up our tree and I’m not even sure I want to. This year, we have four cats, two of whom are only six months old and are very active. I think the ornaments would be so tempting to them. For the sake of my boys, I know I’ll put it up. I’m simply procrastinating at the moment lol.
