This past weekend, I buttoned up the last of my Christmas Decorating in time for the festivities to begin. I am so excited to share our decorated home. This year, the theme I chose was “Winter Wonderland with Plaid Accents”. Here in South-western Ontario, Canada, it is fairly mild until the end of October. This year, we were surprised with a few warmer days well into November. No complaints from this summer-time girl!
If you are new to my blog, welcome! And if you have been here awhile, thank you so much for coming back.
Let’s begin the tour!

Livingroom.
Our first stop is the livingroom. I’m not sure why I always begin with the fireplace mantel, but I do. It’s such a beautiful focal point in our home. The fireplace itself has the original coal burning insert, but it is non-functional. There has been severe damage to it with all the cozy home fires we and previous home owners have enjoyed over the years. To most, it goes unnoticed.
I have used two different garlands on the mantel, one is an evergreen garland and the other is a eucalyptus garland. They look so pretty intertwined together. Then I added some extra floral stems to them such as the bunch of berries and another evergreen stem I had on hand. The last touch was the warm white string lights I purchased from Walmart Canada. They really do give a warm cozy ambience in the livingroom. I also placed some of my favourite Nutcrackers on the mantel along with a large bottle brush tree and two glitter trees. The “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” sign art was made by a local artist who has a sign art business. I love supporting local businesses whenever I can. I sent her an image I found on the internet. I gave her the size I wanted and she made the magic happen. I’m so in love with this large sign art.

We have our very large flocked faux Christmas tree in the livingroom this year. Last year, it was in the diningroom, but we wanted it more central for Christmas morning. Over the years, I’ve been collecting white ornaments, so I have plenty to fill the tree. Then I started collecting winter wonderland ornaments such as faux racoons, birds, etc. These have been THE PERFECT addition to our Winter Wonderland tree! The tree topper was another DIY project. Wired ribbon tree toppers are so fun to make. You can be so creative by choosing different patterns or solid colours of ribbon for your tree topper. I love spending time in the livingroom every evening. I feel like I’m in a Hallmark Christmas movie sometimes … lol.

Diningroom.
In the diningroom, I have put together a beautiful natural winter wonderland tablescape on our new heirloom table that my seventeen year old son built with the help of a local shop. You can see how it looked when we brought it home here. The black and brown table runner is from The Hudson Bay Company. I picked it up about 4 years ago and it has always been on our table through the holidays. This year, however, it looks so much better! The natural wicker cone trees are from HomeSense Canada. I picked them up last year. I absolutely love them anywhere in our home. Adding the wine glasses and the candles are the perfect touch to the perfect ambience for dinner, wouldn’t you say?

I crafted up something special for the shelving unit behind the table this year. I have always thought that a dried orange garland was so beautiful, so I thought I’d give it a try this year. I have a large 9-tray Excalibur dehydrator, so it was fairly easy to make. You can see how I made the Dried Orange Garland here. Once I finished the garland, I added it to a faux evergreen garland I already had on hand. It was an old garland that I dug up from years ago. Adding pinecones and fairy lights made everything so magical.

We also have a wine or coffee bar in our diningroom. I do not drink coffee, so it is our wine bar … lol. Every year in November, I turn it into a decked out Hot Chocolate Station for my boys. This year, I only have one son living at home, so it has been vastly downsized to his liking. In years past, I’ve included a vast assortment of toppings, but I’ve learned that the boys don’t particularly like those fancy toppings, so I keep it fairly simple now. Kitchen.
The kitchen has always been my favourite place to decorate in years past, but this year, it seems more understated than the rest of our home. I’ve added a DIY wreath to the range hood, a few decorations to the kitchen counter and a centerpiece with fairy lights to the island. It really is quite simple mostly because we have four cats and the two little kittens get into everything. Here is what our decorated kitchen looks like this year.

Outside.
The front yard has to be my favourite part of the tour! As you know, we live in a hundred year old house with a full width front porch. I love decorating the outside of our house for Christmas every year. I like to go with the traditional look … warm white clear lights intertwined around evergreen garland swooping along our porch guardrail is so pretty. Until this year, I have always used real garland, but decided to go with faux garland this year. I’ve noticed that the faux garland looks fuller than the real garland which makes a bigger statement. I switched out the planters on the porch with real evergreen boughs and Christmas ornaments I purchased last year from Terra Greenhouse and then added solar fairy lights which as you know … I love fairy lights!

The pièce de résistance this year was decorating our new picket fence that our boys built for us this past summer. I was looking so forward to decorating it this Christmas. Ideas were going through my mind like crazy in the months leading up to the holidays, but I decided to keep it simple … very simple. I added red bows to each of the posts and did a DIY decoration at the two front entry posts. I picked up three sets of two bells from the dollar store, pulled them apart to create two sets of three bells. The bells are plastic, so I am not worried about them getting stolen or damaged. Here is how the fence turned out all decked out for Christmas.
